Often, yes — where the cylinders are compatible sizes and profiles, they can be keyed alike so one key runs several doors. It isn’t possible with every mix (different cylinder sizes, or BS-rated mortice locks, for example), so Max confirms what your doors allow when you book.

Lockdown is an anti-snap defence on certain high-security cylinders — several brands offer it. If the cylinder is attacked, it locks itself solid inside the mechanism: even with the front snapped off, the door stays shut and the only way through is slow, loud, destructive drilling. It turns a silent 20-second attack into one that isn’t worth attempting.

BS3621 is the British Standard for thief-resistant mortice deadlocks on external timber doors: minimum 5 levers, 1,000 key differs, hardened anti-saw bolt, and a bolt that can’t be pushed back without the key. Many home insurance policies name BS3621 on timber final-exit doors as a condition of cover — without it, a claim after a break-in could be affected even if the door was locked. Three checks: (1) look for “BS3621” or the BSI kitemark stamped on the faceplate or case; (2) it should say “5 Lever” — 2- or 3-lever locks don’t qualify; (3) lock it and try pushing the bolt back by hand — a BS3621 bolt won’t move.
